capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender had scott eyester and friends out for an afterno on of bass livelining. we caught the bunker right outside the inlet and headed to sea girt. it was a very slow evening as we made many different drifts to no avail. we ran up to asbury park at dusk and ed faunce landed a nice 30 lb bass. as usual the guys had a great time as did jimmy and i.

lehigh rightfielder mickey lavalley from henryetta, oklahoma lands her first striped bass. capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender took mickey out last saturday morning for a quick shot at livelining. it could not have worked out any better as mickey had an opportunity to land this awesome fish. mickey is fresh off lehigh's regional final against the university of florida in gainesville, needless to say it's been a very exciting spring for mickey and the rest of the girls.

capt's kevin gerrity, sean carton, and dave bender took russ thistle of toms river and friends on an overnighter to the hudson canyon. like everyone else this season, we pushed russ' trip back due to the lack of fish. we saw a nice weather window, and after making a deal with russ, we headed east. the deal was, if we catch, he pays regular fare, if it's not what i call a good trip, he pays my cost. we got to the edge at midinight only to find that the water had cooled off consideralbly. we anchored up in 64 degrees and shortly thereafter it was 63, but still we had hopes. we boated two keeper swordfish, and that would be it on the chunk. getting up on the troll in the morning only saw more cold water. we spoke to a few of the other boats and all had the same results. after trolling for several unproductive hours we decided to chunk the squid boat fleet. we had some great readings and had more high hopes but 5 blue sharks later we headed for the barn in flat calm seas. all in all we have been taken these guys for years and they had a great time, as did we. russ, against his will paid me cost only, for the trip, it's how we treat our loyal customers. if the water that we see east moves in, we will make one more trip, if not, it was a very weird year to say the least, as they say in brooklyn" wait till next year"

capt's jimmy gahm, kevin gerrity, and dave bender took john dunahoe of moretrench inc, rockaway,nj out for an overnighter november 7/8. there was a small weather window, perhaps a crack, friday night into saturday, so after pushing john back three times this season due to poor fishing we headed to the hudson. the ride out was a bit un-nerving in pea soup fog. we arrived at 7pm and anchored up in 67 degree water. we boated a swordfish and that would be it untill 4:30 when the longfins came under the boat. we boated five longfins and that was it. we read them under the boat but they would not cooperate. we decided to go on the troll at about 8am and that was a great idea as we boated another 17 longfins and one yellowfin. the tally for the trip was 22 longfin, 1 yellowfin, 1 swordfish, and three gaffer mahi. we wanted to put john on a good trip, as we cancelled him several times this season, we are so happy that it all worked out for him and his crew. |

capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took paul kelly of parsippany and friends on their annual overnighter. we pushed paul back two months due to the slow fishing in late august, and it paid off in dividends. we left the dock very early wednesday morning hoping for a great day on the troll. well, the numbers weren't there but the quality was. arriving at the dge at 11am, we had our first bite at noon, and it was the right one. after an hour battle, and the rod being passed off like a bong pipe, we boated a nice bigeye in the 180-190lb range. the rest of the afternoon was quiet untill we found some life in the south toms, we went one for three on longfins before setting up for the night. once again the night bite is non existant, i think they forgot to stock last week. back on the troll in the morning was very exciting as we had four rods go off and a few other short bites. two longfin came to the boat rather quickly, the other two acted very familiar. after about a half hour we knew we had two more bigeyes on. we got the first one to the boat only to have the hook pull at the boat. things got quiet, but we got to see the beauty, all 160lbs of her. shortly thereafter, her twin was in the boat. we made a few more passes and got another 50lb longfin in the box. we had a great trip going 2 for 3 on bigeye and 6 longfins, the guys had a great time as did kevin and i. unfortunatley the weather man has taken care of the weekend and the early part of next week, just when we started to get into a rythym.

capt's jimmy gahm and kevin gerrity took keith vannozzi of ewing out for the second time this season. we had pushed keith back in view of the poor fishing, but it was time to make the run offshore. trolling on sunday was somewhat frustrating as we went 2 for 8 on large longfin. we couldn't seal the deal on the other six bites. once again the chunk was slow as we boated a mako. back on the troll in the morning capt jimmy was back on track as we boated 7 more longfins and our first wahoo of the season. the guys had a great time and came home with plenty of meat, tonight we are all having some wahooooooooooo
capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took jon and rich baum of freehold and friends on an overnighter to the toms canyon. the trolling was very good as we boated a dozen large longfins and a 60 lb yellowfin by dark. the night chunk was uneventful once again as we released a small swordfish. back on the troll saturday morning we picked up right where we left off, boating three more longfins and two nice yellowfins to 60lbs. we came home with a total of 18 tuna on ice. we really enjoyed the company and the fishing. ps: sorry for the bloody picture

capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took billy and kolby nighland of cedar grove out for their overnighter after a very successful bigeye troll trip in august. it was our first time back to the canyons after a long layoff due to weather and very poor fishing. we trolled five very big longfins to about 60 lbs before setting up for the night. on the chunk we caught 4 swordfish retaining one, 1 60lb longfin and a 50 lb yellowfin. back on the troll in the morning produced two more nice longfins and two very nice gaffer mahi. all in all we returned with nine large tuna, a swordfish, and two mahi, the guys had a great time and we'll see them again in 2009.

capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took kevin cashman of wall and friends to the bluefin grounds on a day trip sept 14th. we anchored in the fleet an had action most of the day. the end of the day saw some very large fish move in. tom cunningham of colts neck using the shimano butterfly system hooked a monster fish that spooled us in a matter of a minute, shortly thereafter we hooked another large fish and after the smoke cleared we ahd a 119lb blefin in the boat. the guys had a great time with plenty of action.
capt's jimmy gahm and kevin gerrity took greg, dave and eric dial of basking ridge on an overnighter to the hudson canyon. enroute to the canyon we stopped inshore on the bluefin grounds. within a few minutes we had fish on and the guys caught an over under. we released several more, and had fish up to 80 lbs. we took a slow ride out to the grounds in crummy weather. the night bite was non existant, we boated a small swordfish and that was it for the trip. the morning troll was rough and uneventful, as we read the bigeyes down deep but they would not come up in the 6-8" seas.
capt's matt muzlay and sean carton took bill tirpak of birdsboro, pa and friends on an overnighter to the hudson canyon thursday sept 11th. enroute to the canyon we stopped inshore to try to catch some bluefins. within 15 minutes we had fish on and boated an over under, 1 fish under 47" and one fish over 47" weighing 40 and 80 lbs respectivley. after releasing several more we headed east and set up for the night. it was a slow night but at 5am we boated 10 small yellowfins. the troll produced a white marlin release as well. the guys are already talking about next years adventure.

capt's matt muzlay and sean carton took chris glassford of syracuse,ny and friends on an overnighter to the hudson canyon thursday august 28th. we trolled all afternoon with one white marlin coming unglued and one mahi. the overnight chunk was very dissapointing as we released a sword and boated three small yellowfins. the morning troll was exciting as we had a double header of white marlin but could not seal the deal. the trip ended with o for 5 on white marlin and the three small tunas. the guys were unbelievable, they could not have been more appreciative when i met them at the dock, i was very impressed with their positive attitude on the slow fishing. we owe these guys and gal a great trip in 09.

capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took longtime customer ken switzer of nyc and friends on an overnighter to the hudson canyon sunday august 23rd. the trolling was a total bust although we read the bigeye's down deep they would not come up for a visit. we anchored up just east of the square and caught 7 small yellowfins for our efforts. the weather kicked up in the am so we never got another shot at the bigeye's monday morning. we did manage some of the yellowfins on the boys own butterfly jigs.

capt's jimmy gahm andkevin gerity took brent petersen of staten island ,ny and friends out for thier annual overnighter. inspite of letting brent know that the fishing was slow he had a positive attitude. he said"dave, it's going to break open sooner or later, it might as well be with us, let's make our own headlines. well, the trolling was very slow, we had two white marlin playing with our baits and that was it. the chunk produced a dozen small yelowfin that were kept for the table. the highlight of the trip was a 180lb swordfish that took the guys around the boat many times. the boys fought the fish for 2 and a half hours, but in the end they got their headlines. all in all they had a great time and we'll see them again this year or next for sure.

capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took bart spotta of scotch plains and the guys from the macelroy company on an overnighter to the hudson canyon sunday august 17th. the day troll sunday was completely uneventful, as was the night bite. we chunked two small yellowfins all night. the monday morning troll however was quite exciting. jimmy was in some heavy traffic, but finally got the bite he was looking for as the bigeyes came up for a visit. three swirls and two misses, but the right one came tight. after a two hour battle our largest bigeye to date was in the boat. the fish was 70" lomg and weighed in at 225 lbs. once again the real seat rainbow runner bar was the victim. although the fishing was very slow, you can say that the boys got just what they bargained for, the fight and fish of a lifetime. we would like to thank them for putting us in a position to boat such a beautiful fish.
