capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took vinny callan and justin of rutherford,nj out to the hudson canyon on an overnighter. after the huge nor' easter we weren't sure what to expect. we arrived on the southwest corner and found 66 degrees and set up on the chunk. we had our first fish within about an hour and thought we might be on to something. we picked another small yellowfin about 8pm and then it was dead for hours. we lost two swordfish and caught and over abundance of blue sharks, we also released a small mako. the blue sharks were a nusance to say the least, but justin told me the highlight for him was looking face to face with a 200lber that he fought and released. in the morning we did not have the bite we had waited all night for, justin jigged another yellowfin about 9am and then more blue sharks. the guys had a great time and there were alotta laughs, we did have an awesome ride home on a 70 degree day on october. the weatherman is at it again so we don't know if or when we'll get out again. with the insurgence of blue sharks, this may have been our swan song for 2009, let's hope not! the highlight for me was seeing justin jig that yellowfin, he yelled"hey i got one" that made my day, for sure.
