capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender took tim wilsey and friends out to the toms canyon for their annual labor day overnighter. tim's son andrew couldn't make it due to his high school orientation, don't worry andrew, i already set it up with dad for next year. the trolling left a bit to be desired as we pulled off a white marlin within the first 5 minutes of setting out the spread, after that it was countless hours of clearing weed off our lures, i think jimmy did it on purpose, just to see me hustle. there was no good word from anyone else fishing the canyons from the hudson to the wilmington, all we heard was bad reports. the chunk was equally as slow, up until about 4:30 when the screen lit up and two rods screamed off. we knew we had nice fish right away, unfortunaltly both ran up to the bow, and it was mayhem. the guys did a fantastic job of over and under the bow pulpit and the anchor line, after about 15 minutes we had two beautiful 60-70lb

yellowfins in the box. the only other bite was a swordfish in the 150 lb class that pulled off during the fight. back on the am troll, we heard that it was screaming inshore so we decided to head in about 9:30. that turned out to be a good decision as at the 67mm we hit the wall, 25knots northeast, what a ride! tim will be back next season with andrew, hopefully with a better report.
