capt's jimmy gahm and kevin gerrity were back at it sunday june 27th for mako mania, with long time tuna jigger jamie and his possie. capt jimmy went right back to where we had em on saturday but after a long morning it was obvious, no one was home. capt kevin reached into his bag of knowledge and picked a spot 14 miles to the west, after about an hour the right one came knocking. the mako smoked kevins' finger and leaped 12' in the air coming down on the main line and it was game over. jimmy and kevin estimated the fish well over 300lbs, a contender to say the least. shortly thereafter the very silent crew and boat headed for the barn. as always jaimie called the next day to commend jimmy and kevin's tireless efforts and putting them on what could have been the winning fish. there is a certain amount of luck in landing these monster's, our hats go off to big boy and all the place winners. as for the jenny lee, we will now focus all of our time offshore looking for tuna and whatever else bites our lines.
capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took john sieberg of nyc and friends out for a day of shark fishing in the 2010 mako mania tournament. we headed east about 6am and about 11am had a steady pick of sharks ranging from 200lb blue sharks to 4 makos. sam vandervroot of holmdel caught our largest mako, an estimated 150lb'r. it was sam's fist mako and i'm sure not her last. we debated boatside on taking this shark, but after discussing our options we decided to take a nice fish for the table. it was a beautiful day with some nice action, hopefully everyone had as good a time as kevin and i .

capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender had scott eyester of hatzell and buehler electric out for a day of bass fishing. we had a live well full of fresh bait from friend paul skiby so we immediatley started livelining. we went 1 for 3 including chet's first 30 lb bass that neither the fish nor chet knew they were hooked up. after the bite died we fluked the middle part of the day with over 40 fish caught. we kept 4 for dinner and ended the day trying to get scott a bass, but that was all she wrote. as usual jimmy and i had a great time with these guys, we'll see them again "reel" soon.

capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender took bill meiklejohn, daughter meg, son in law brock and newphew john out for a redemption bass trip. jimmy and i took the family offshore in august for a day troll. the fishing the day before was awesome as we had 8 bigeyes on and landed four to 190lbs. well, as it turned out we arrived back at the 100 squre greeted by heavy seas and grey ugly skies. we heard the fleet crying as there was not a bigeye caught all day and very few small yellowfins. we banged around all day in 4-6' seas and the guys handled it perfectly. we had one white marlin bite and that came unglued, not our day. on the way home jimmy and i were very upset that we took these good folks out on such a crummy trip, so we invited them back this weekend for a bass trip, on us. we had an awesome day keeping three bass for the table, as well as a rare bonito. we released countless small bass and blues and the folks had a great time. jimmy and i laughed all day, as did everyone else it was a great day. watch video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSNgBOymQNc
capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender took tuna customer neal johnson of stanfordville, ny out for a day of bass fishing. with the weather window calling for light and variable we really wanted to push offshore but scheduling issues could not allow that to happen. as it turned out it was a blessing, as two friends went off shore and neither boat had a bite. back to our bass trip, we started the day jigging small bass off sea girt then headed up to the rocks for a nice pick of bass and blues. we ended the day with 5 keeper bass to 20lbs and released another 15-20. we'll see neal next tuna season, hopefully WITHOUT BANANAS! neal, just so you know jimmy and i got the water hose stuck on the props at the dock, it's never happened in 15 years, it's on the bananas!

capt's matt muzlay and sean carton took john wytanis of freehold ,new jersey and friends out to the mudhole for some inshore tuna action. almost immediatley they had a bite but it came unglued. shortly thereafter they had another one and this time they sealed the deal with a nice 40 plus pounder. the rest of the day saw bluefish and dogfish, inspite of making a second move the blufin action was over. the guys had an amazing day on the water as the mercury hit 72 degrees for late october.

capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took vinny callan and justin of rutherford,nj out to the hudson canyon on an overnighter. after the huge nor' easter we weren't sure what to expect. we arrived on the southwest corner and found 66 degrees and set up on the chunk. we had our first fish within about an hour and thought we might be on to something. we picked another small yellowfin about 8pm and then it was dead for hours. we lost two swordfish and caught and over abundance of blue sharks, we also released a small mako. the blue sharks were a nusance to say the least, but justin told me the highlight for him was looking face to face with a 200lber that he fought and released. in the morning we did not have the bite we had waited all night for, justin jigged another yellowfin about 9am and then more blue sharks. the guys had a great time and there were alotta laughs, we did have an awesome ride home on a 70 degree day on october. the weatherman is at it again so we don't know if or when we'll get out again. with the insurgence of blue sharks, this may have been our swan song for 2009, let's hope not! the highlight for me was seeing justin jig that yellowfin, he yelled"hey i got one" that made my day, for sure.

capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took long time customers kevin mcarthy and anthony rinaldi of staten island, ny and friends on an overnighter to the hudson canyon. after 10 days of hard winds we finally got back out to the grounds. we were very tempted to stop inshore at the bluefin grounds but we heard nothing positive at all. upon reaching the hudson a good friend let us know that he had spent the night in the squid boats and didn't have a touch...ouch! we decided to find the break and warm water, which we did on the southwest corner. once again we trolled to no avail. we set up early on the chunk in calm seas, and 69 degree water, with high hopes. kevins' goal to to boat a nice sword. by 9:30 we had two small yellowfins and 3 mahi on board and things looked promising, THEN THE FAN CAME ON.. HARD!. with winds whipping up to 30 knots it was difficult to fish as the baits were getting pulled off by the rough seas. we did mangage to release a small swordfish and boat another tuna. it was very tough conditions to say the least, we missed a few other bites, but the guys were outstanding. arriving back at the dock, they were all smiles, perhaps they were happy to be on good ol' terra firma.

capts mat muzlay and sean carton took john nuss of hazlet,nj and friends out to the toms canyon for an overnighter october 1st 2009. once again the troll was a bust but the chunking was very good. the guys jigged 11 yellowfins to 30 lbs on shimano butterfly jigs, and lost just as many. john is already talking about next year. unfortunately the weather man is killing us and we are losing trips by the handful.

capt's rick petschauer and dave bender took nick sr& jr kopan of east amwell, nj out to the hudson for an overnighter. once again the trolling was a bust as we didn't have a single knockdown. the chunk was equally dissapointing as we boated five yellowfins to 25lbs and lost another four. the fish were landed once again on shimano butterfly jigs. the guys were up all night catching squid and jigging, they deserved better for their efforts. all in all they had fun and the weather was great as was the company.
capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took ken switzer of nyc out to the hudson for an overnighter sunday sept 20th. the trolling was dead as we landed a few nice mahi but the chunking was great. the guys brough out their shimano butterfly jigs and the tuna cooperated as we boated 18 small yellowfins to 35lbs. the jigs accounted for most of the fish as they yellowfins didn't want the chunks. all in all it was a great trip and our first real slammer chunking trip of the 2009 season. hopefully the fish get bigger and the weather starts to cooperate.

capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took jeff samuel of ewing and friends on an overnighter to the hudson canyon monday sept 14th. after a gorgeous ride out we set up for the night, we waited all night for our turn as a few boats in the area were catching some fish early on. we were tempted to make a move but it had gotten sloppy throughout the night. at false light we had our first bite and it was a beautiful 60 lb yellowfin that tony polumbo of oakland landed on his own setup. shortly thereafter a second fish was on an it went through all five guys. we didn't know what to expect as this fish refused to come quietly, after about a 27 minute battle we had a second 65lb yellowfin on board. for what ever reason, that fish was nasty, he had some real power. instead of trolling in the morning the guys opted to pot hop for mahi. on the way home we stopped inshore for a crack at the bluefins, but as luck woud have it" shoulda been here yesterday". we gave it 2 hours and headed for the barn.
capt's jimmy gahm and sean carton took jamie borenios of emerson,nj and friends out on an overnighter. jamie is a huge fan of shimano butterfly jigging and after a slammin trip this august there was no question that we would stop short to try for some bluefins. the guys had several fish on and boated an under fish right away, after releasing many more they had an over fish on but lost it. after a few hours it was off to the hudson, up on the troll they had a few mahi bites and a few white marlin in the spread, but as usual, they came unglued. the chunk was surprisingly good as the guys boated 13 yellowfins to 70lbs as well as a small swordfish. the majority of fish were caught on the butterfly jigs as well as our first jigged swordfish on the jenny lee. the guys decided not to troll in the morning, but to stop back on the bluefin grounds. upon arrival they jigged hard as they always do and were rewarded with three fish within a half hour. it was an awesome trip for jamie and the guys, well deserved for sure.

capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender took tim wilsey and friends out to the toms canyon for their annual labor day overnighter. tim's son andrew couldn't make it due to his high school orientation, don't worry andrew, i already set it up with dad for next year. the trolling left a bit to be desired as we pulled off a white marlin within the first 5 minutes of setting out the spread, after that it was countless hours of clearing weed off our lures, i think jimmy did it on purpose, just to see me hustle. there was no good word from anyone else fishing the canyons from the hudson to the wilmington, all we heard was bad reports. the chunk was equally as slow, up until about 4:30 when the screen lit up and two rods screamed off. we knew we had nice fish right away, unfortunaltly both ran up to the bow, and it was mayhem. the guys did a fantastic job of over and under the bow pulpit and the anchor line, after about 15 minutes we had two beautiful 60-70lb yellowfins in the box. the only other bite was a swordfish in the 150 lb class that pulled off during the fight. back on the am troll, we heard that it was screaming inshore so we decided to head in about 9:30. that turned out to be a good decision as at the 67mm we hit the wall, 25knots northeast, what a ride! tim will be back next season with andrew, hopefully with a better report.

capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took chris and will glassford of syracuse,ny and friends on their annual overnighter on august 25, 2009. we started a few hours earlier with the intention of doing some inshore bluefin fishing before heading for the edge. when we arrived at " little italy" we heard that it was an early bite and it was slow. we gave it about 45 minutes and headed offshore to our next stop, about another 30 miles. upon arriving in the fleet we heard once again that it was slow, but we gave it our best effort. after about an hour chris wanted to head to the deep, so off we went. the afternoon troll was slow although we missed a white and finally connected with three keeper yellowfins. upon setting up for the night we had great bait readings and had our hopes up, at about 11pm or so we had a tuna bite and it was game on. after a nice fight chris and his pal had landed an awesome 60lb yellowfin, after looking at the litttle ones, this one looked like a monster. we worked realy hard all night looking for his pals, but all we had for our efforts was a mahi and some blue sharks till about 5am when mr mako came on a tuna bait. after two awesome jumps he was straight up and down and you know the rest. the morning troll was really sloppy to say the least, we had a white marlin on for a while including 2 airial displays only to lose him after about 5 minutes. another two hours in the slop and chris said" head for the barn capt" click for video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rotbxjmf8HM
